You Choose - Where could YOU go?
I’ve been clearing out the spare room to turn it into a space for work and relaxation, and came across one of our family’s favourite books. When my kids were younger, we used to snuggle up at bedtime and have exciting adventures going through the well-worn pages.
There are questions and fantastic illustrations to get you thinking about where you would like to travel, how you’d like to get there, what job would you like to do, what type of house (or amazing castle, spaceship, whatever!) you would like to live in. Sometimes we went for the same things, other times we made completely different choices just for fun. But we always had our favourites which reflect who we are, our values, and a sense of purpose in life.
When we are children – or parents exploring with them – I think we’re more likely to free ourselves to go for the far-out ideas, without obstacles or limitations, daring to imagine what could be possible. And the sense of connection and excitement is palpable when we’re being true to what we really want from life. This is how we thrive and fulfil our greatest potential. And isn't it fantastic when our children experience us being like that?
I wonder when this playfulness, creativity and enthusiasm starts to fade, and how different life becomes when we settle for the safer or more obvious options that come along. Maybe it's because we think we should, out of fear or a sense of responsibility? Whatever the reason, it's never too late to make different choices.
What might be possible if you could start from a blank page again? Where could YOU go?
